Robin Tangen's Obituary
Robin Tangen, known fondly among friends as “Tiger,” passed away unexpectedly from a massive heart attack on September 14, 2021, at the age of 70.
Robin was born in Brooklyn, New York, on June 7, 1951 to the late John and Kirsten Tangen, and spent nearly all of his life in Marathon, in the heart of the Florida Keys. He owned and operated Tangen Excavating for many years, served as President of the Marathon Jaycees, volunteered with the Marine Patrol Auxiliary, and helped construct the Marathon Children’s Rotary Park. He enjoyed building boats, fishing and diving, water skiing, volleyball, playing music in his church band, and spending time with his family, grilling hamburgers in the backyard and relaxing at the sandbar. He will forever be remembered as a kind, easygoing man who was always willing to lend a hand and offer a friendly smile.
Robin leaves behind his wife of 25 years, Gay Ann, and daughter, Kirsten; three stepchildren: Steven Shea (and wife Melanie), Aimee Vitek (and husband Kenny), and Caitlin Worden (and husband Allen); five grandsons, who adoringly knew him as Pops: Victor, Nathanael, Timothy, Isaac and Jeremiah; and his favorite granddog, Ella.
Robin’s ashes will be spread in the waters surrounding Sombrero Key Lighthouse, in a ceremony reserved only for immediate family.
A celebration of life will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at the main entrance pavilion at Sombrero Beach in Marathon, Florida. All are welcome to join in remembering Robin, who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
