Robert Vespe's Obituary
Robert was born on August 31, 1950 in Astoria Queens, NY. He was the son of Rocco Vespe and Elsie Schwab, and was third oldest in a line of 12 brothers and sisters. He attended Jamaica High School in Queens, NY and later attended Control Data Institute where he discovered his knack for computers and technology.
Robert married Ginnie Bentivoglio at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Astoria Queens, NY on July 28, 1973. They settled in Astoria, NY and later moved to Miami, FL in 1976. They had 3 sons Robert, Ryan, and Christopher.
He began working in the computer industry, most notably for Sperry Univac and Unisys. Later, he served as Director of Computer Services for the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Florida for 18 years. Following that he worked for Integrations Technology Group (ITG) before fully retiring.
Robert stayed active in retirement. For 6 yrs he volunteered at S.H.I.N.E. at the Dept. of Elder Affairs where he counseled and educated seniors on their health insurance needs. He was also an active participant in Toastmasters. Over the years he enjoyed boating, fishing with his sons and nephews, riding his bike, walking his dog and talking with neighbors, playing on his Oculus VR, and golfing with friends. His greatest joy was his grandchildren Rease, Ariana, RJ, Nicolas, Gabriel, and Alina.
Rob and Ginnie were known to host Thanksgiving every year for all family and friends. The entire family looked forward to this tradition! For over 25 years this gathering served as an annual reunion for the family.
He was known for being funny and kind. Everyone who knew him, loved him. He was the first one to lend a helping hand whether it was fixing something in the house for a friend, or giving a ride to the senior center for his mother-in-law. You could always depend on him. He loved playing with the kids, his grandchildren and everyone else’s included. You would find him on vacations building sandcastles on the beach or wrestling the kids in the pool. He was truly a kid at heart.
His memory lives on with his wife Virginia (Ginnie), his kids Robert (Cristina), Ryan (Monique), and Christopher (Natasha) and his grandchildren Rease, Ariana, RJ, Nicolas, Gabriel, and Alina.
He will be missed.
