Robert was born on August 31, 1950 in Astoria Queens, NY. He was the son of Rocco Vespe and Elsie Schwab, and was third oldest in a line of 12 brothers and sisters. He attended Jamaica High School in Queens, NY and later attended Read Obituary
My sincerest condolences to the Vespe family. I met Bob at the U. S. District Court. In all my years at the Court, Bob has been a boss with no equal: caring, compassionate, honest, and sincere. He stood up for his employees and helped guide them to be better. He truly has been the “world’s best boss”, the Michael Scott to my Jim (apologies for the corny Office reference, but I have always fondly remembered him whenever I watch that show). See you in paradise my friend (John 11:24).
Robert was my trainer in SHINE. He was an inspiration to me as both an expert on Medicare and how a volunteer should treat people kindly and with patience. Unfortunately the pandemic interrupted our budding relationship, but I will always fondly remember him from the short but meaningful time our paths crossed.
My condolences to Robert's wife and family. As a SHINE volunteer, I admired Robert's knowledge and his commitment to serving our clients. I would try to sit directly across from him at the monthly meetings, so I could hear the latest about his family and be sure of a laugh due to his really funny sense of humor. I will miss him.
I met Bob Vespe at Sperry Univac / Unisys back in the 70s where we worked together for many years, then he went to US District Court, and I followed him there where he was my boss for a long while too. A truly wonderful person and very funny too, it was always a pleasure working with him. My condolences to all his family.

Rob was a wonderful friend, he always had us laughing. One of my first memories was of his famous “Domino Theory.” I was the first to get pregnant of our group and his response when he heard was oh no here we all go, one by one we will all fall!! He was not wrong because in a few months Ginnie was expecting little Rob, Maureen had Rachel and Jane had Jeremy.
And then when my son was born with the cord around his neck he was sure it was due to the roller coaster ride we had all gone on, he told Ginnie, “I told her not to go!” Rest In Peace dear friend, I know Angelo, Theresa, Donald and you are already having lots of laughs together, we will miss you dearly.
