Robbie Nelson Addison's Obituary
Mr. Robbie Nelson Addison, age 78, of Miami, Florida, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, October 22, 2021. Robbie was preceded in death by his father, Robbie Leon Addison; mother, Virginia North; grandmother, Eula Whidden; grandparents, Mark L. Addison and wife Lucretia; brother, Mark Addison and step-brother, Tucker Townsend.
He is survived by his loving son, Robbie James (Jamie); daughter-in-law, Jackie; beloved granddaughters, Julie and Alicia; sisters, Marsha “Sissy” Castellanos and Donna Chase; step-mother, Melverna (Bunny) Addison; his son’s mother, Patricia Rutherford and numerous nieces and nephews.
Robbie, affectionately known as “Bub”, was a passionate animal lover who enjoyed raising cows, exotic birds and showing Dachshunds and even Rottweilers at one point. He had several national champions through the years, and even became a respected show judge. He enjoyed a home-cooked meal, but he also liked dining-out, sun-tanning on the beach, traveling, Country music, Tina Turner, dancing, partying and going to the theater.
Robbie was committed to his family and his family loved him profoundly. He was the family patriarch who all looked up to. A fun-loving grandpa, he adored his granddaughters. He was very proud of his son for always supporting him and for working very hard by his side since the age of fourteen.
Robbie was a good-natured person and a faithful friend. He was there for you unconditionally to lend a helping hand, to offer a word of encouragement or to help anyone in need. He had a great sense of humor and he enjoyed talking with people.
The young man raised in the little town of Clewiston, Florida, set out one day to make his dream come true. In 1965, after honorably serving his country in the United States Navy, he began working as a manager at one of his father’s feed store businesses, Sunset Feed & Supply, on 15585 SW 232 Street, in the Redlands area. In less than ten years, he would purchase this store from his father.
On January 1, 1975, his vision finally became a reality when “Robbie’s Feed & Supply” opened its doors for the first time. Many more years of hard work, perseverance and sacrifices would follow. On July 2000, he relocated his business to its current location on 224 Street & Krome Avenue, becoming a local landmark in our community. Everyone has heard of or been to Robbie’s Feed sometime throughout these nearly 50 years.
Robbie became a pillar in our community. He was an honest, truly dedicated man with old-fashion values and impeccable work ethics. He was by nature a very savvy business entrepreneur and he worked hard his entire life.
Robbie exemplified a relentless commitment to service and dedication to his country, family, friends and community. During his lifetime he strived to make a difference and he made it his mission to contribute and support so many noble causes and institutions, including the South Florida Trail Riders, The South Dade Kennel Club, the South Florida SPCA, the Youth Fair, the Homestead 4-H Club, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and The Children’s Cancer Caring Center here in Miami, Florida.
There will never be another one like Robbie. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, employees, and customers, and all who were privileged to know him. He was warm and welcoming, energetic, non-conventional, fun-loving; he was a very generous man, a father-figure to so many people, a great friend, listener and adviser. He just simply loved life and he saw the good in people and loved helping others.
Per his wishes, there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, please donate your time or lend your support to so many organizations in need. Robbie would be very happy that you did.
The Children’s Cancer Caring Center (CCCC) was an organization very near and dear to Robbie. This charity provided for all of Jamie’s treatments when he suffered from leukemia as a young child. Robbie never forgot the excellent care, the compassion and support that he received during those very difficult times.
For those so inclined, donations in his name may be made to Live Like Bella and mailed to: 2199 Ponce de Leon Blvd., Suite 303, Coral Gables, FL 33134. Please write on the memo section: Robbie Addison & CCCC. Online donations are also accepted at: http://www.livelikebella.org/.
May you rest in peace and rise in glory, Bub.
Keep shining - the light you showed the world will continue to shine.
