Katherine Graves
He achieved the American Dream. He reinforced the values of working hard, being a person of character, understanding the significance of family, and being proud to be an American. I am grateful to have known him and to have learned from him. I still think about all the time we visited him and Grandma in Katy. All the cattle - his love of Brahmin; Smoky the horse, Freckles and the great other guards dogs. The pond where he taught me how to fish, and the countless times Will and I played basketball in the cold using the rim Grandpa let Betty install for us on the side of his barn. He would do anything to make us happy - even offering to buy me a horse after I pleaded, despite the fact I couldn’t ride (but thankfully we decided not to after some careful thought). He loved steak, a nice cold beer, his cattle, and most of all his family. I couldn’t ask for a better grandpa, and a better example of how to achieve happiness and success. He even taught me a few Spanish words as a young girl as I looked to learn the language of my grandparents. Some words included but are not limited to: sun (el sol), spoon (la cuchara), and knife (el cuchillo). There’s so much that can’t be said because there probably isn’t enough room, but I will never forget the wisdom and love he’s shown me, and hope to be able to always take with me what he’s taught and forever keep him alive with those stories. Love you, Grandpa! ❤️
May God bless you, and rest your sole. I will love you forever.
