Hilda M. Barroso's Obituary
Hilda Carolina Milanés Barroso, of Miami, Florida, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 21, 2026, at the age of 90.
Hilda was born on July 29, 1935, in Havana, Cuba, to Dr. Fernando Regino Milanés and Dr. Hilda Adolfina Milanés Morales. She was homeschooled by her mother alongside her younger brother—her “Irish twin”—until about the age of ten. She later graduated from Villanova University with a degree in interior design.
Hilda met her husband, Jorge, when she was just fourteen years old, and they married at age twenty-one at the Belén Chapel in Havana. In 1958, they fled Cuba with their firstborn son to begin a new life in Miami, Florida. Hilda went on to raise six children in total. The family later relocated to New Jersey, where they lived for more than twelve years. During that time, Hilda transitioned from interior design to a career in real estate. In 1978, the family returned to Miami, where both her parents and in-laws continued to reside.
Hilda loved music-filled gatherings and enjoyed playing the guitar. She had a deep appreciation for the finer things in life and did her best to share that sense of beauty and care with her children.
Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Fernando R. Milanés and Dr. Hilda A. Milanés Morales; her beloved husband, Jorge Fabián Barroso; and her brothers, Dr. Fernando J. Milanés and José Antonio Milanés.
She is survived by her six children: Jorge Luis Barroso (Miriam), Hilda Margarita Barroso Lopez (Armando), Victor Manuel Barroso, Fernando Fabián Barroso (Evelyn), Juan Carlos Barroso (Janna), and Alejandro Jorge Barroso (Amy). She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, her brothers Jorge Carlos Milanés (Patricia) and Carlos Alberto Milanés (Renee), and her in-laws Nuria Milanés, Ignacio Barroso, and Raúl Barroso (Elena).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a charity close to Hilda’s heart that she supported for many years.
She will be deeply missed and long remembered.
