Miami, Florida - Domingo Alfredo Arias Munoz passed away Sept. 2, 2021.
He was born in Chile and immigrated to the United States in 1977.
While in Chile he pursued a career in Academia and was dedicated to fighting for social justice issues as a civil rights leader. He retired from CCSU (Central Connecticut State University) as a college administrator with Emeritus Status.
For over 40 years he worked in social services and higher education. During that time he assisted families in need and helped students acquire jobs. One of his greatest accomplishments was being the past President of CALAHE (Connecticut Association of Latinos in Higher Education) as well as
being the creator and co-founder of CLAS (Congress of Latin American Students) which remains active to date.
Domingo enjoyed reading, writing, traveling, fishing, golfing and gardening, but what he cherished the most was his time with his family members located in Chile, Connecticut, and Florida. He is survived by his loving wife, Monica Tatiana Arias, his daughters Tatiana Arias O’Connor and Claudia Arias-Cirinna. His son-in-laws: Philip O’Connor and David Cirinna. He was predeceased by his daughter Monica Arias-Farfan. He is the beloved grandfather (Tata) to: Fernando, Francisco, Rory, Fiorella, Sofia and Rocco. He also loved his furry grandsons Teddy and Charlie.
He was a warrior, hero, protector and mentor. A man with character and principle. His love and passion for his family and community was unprecedented. He was courageous and brave and believed that the world could be better if action was taken. Never needed praise nor acknowledgement for the good deeds he performed.
A private ceremony and viewing with immediate family will take place at Branam Funeral Home Memorial Plan, 809 North Krome Avenue, Homestead, FL 33030.
