Sybil Swerdlow's Obituary
Sybil Livingston Swerdlow departed her loving family on June 16, 2021, after a short illness while residing at the Palace in Homestead, Florida at the lovely age of 94.
Sybil was born in the Bronx, New York City, New York on February 16, 1927 to Max and Edna Livingston. Her only marriage was to Jack Swerdlow, which ended in divorce prior to her moving to Florida in 1977.
Sybil was mother to Wendy Staples of Florida, Sheryl Schuhose of North Carolina, and Michael Livingston of New Jersey. She was grandmother to Logan Staples, Emilee Staples, Eric Schuhose, and Adam Schuhose, and great grandmother to Emma Jane Schuhose. She was aunt to Stacy Newman and Lance Newman, children of her sister Lorraine, who preceded her in death.
Sybil was a longtime resident of Kendall, Florida where she moved after living in Edison, New Jersey. She worked for many years at the Don Carter Bowling Center in Kendall, as waitress and cook at Blondie’s Diner within the Bowling Center, where she loved spending time with her regular customers, and they loved her cooking and conversation in return. At the El Conquistador condominium where she lived for 40 years, residents fondly remember her as always speaking her mind and “keeping them in line”.
Sybil also loved to cook for her family and their memories of holiday meals at her home, with matzoh ball soup and potted chicken, are vivid and special. She also enjoyed knitting, making scarves, hats, and afghans full of love for all her children, grandchildren, and finally for her great granddaughter.
Sybil will be cremated and a Memorial Service celebrating her life may be held at a later time to be announced.
