Suzanne Louis' Obituary
Suzanne Louis, 92, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2020. She was born in Jeremie, Haiti on March 20, 1928, the second of the children born to Hector Louis and Sarah Bien-Aime. She was the last surviving soul of that generation.
Suzanne attended school at Saint de Poess of Jeremie from kindergarten to the tenth grade. When her mother passed away, she moved to Port-au-Prince, where she landed a job at Osso Blanco as a meat cutter. It is there that she met one of her former teachers who went there to purchase some meat. This encounter changed her life, as shortly thereafter they decided to live together. After a few years, she decided to seek greener pastures in the United States, using the Bahamas as a temporary stop. They fulfilled their dreams in May 1990. She worked as a cook in various restaurants until her retirement about ten years ago.
Suzanne was a loving, kind hearted and intelligent person. She lived her life as a soldier. There was no grey area with her. When she said, "Yes", she was committed. When she said, "NO", that meant it's not happening. Suzanne's smile and laughs were infectious. Once she got started, those around her couldn't help joining in.
Suzanne carried her Bible with her everywhere. People bonded with her easily. She was a vibrant queen whose wisdom was sought and appreciated by many. She always had a wealth of advice for anyone willing to listen. Those who met her immediately knew that it was best for them to close their mouths and open their ears as pearls of wisdom were being delivered.
Suzanne will always be remembered for her happy disposition, and the joy she experienced while singing her favorite gospel in Creole.
Suzanne is survived by her son: Elize Benabe, her grandchildren: Alwytch, Jenifer, Mustapha, Wens, Karla, and Valerie Benabe, her great grandchildren: Serena, Tyler, Mia Chase, Slajeny, Dave, along with nieces, nephews, cousins and great great grandchildren. May she rest in peace.
