Surujkant P Doobay's Obituary
Surujkant Persaud Doobay, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, was a radiant soul who brightened the lives of those he encountered. He passed away on October 27, 2023, at the age of 92. Born in Ogle, Guyana on August 6, 1931, Surujkant was the youngest of six children. He worked for the government of Guyana as a land surveyor, harnessing his curious and contemplative nature. As the son of an illustrious line of Brahmin priests, Surujkant engaged in selfless community service and worked to elevate the sacred teachings of Hinduism. In his early years as a Hindu priest, he assisted in the founding of a Hindu temple in Ogle, Guyana and Montrose, Guyana. Upon emigrating to the United States, Pandit Doobay led the Indian community in laying the foundation for a Hindu temple in Dallas, Texas. In 1988, He moved to Miami, Florida where he worked tirelessly over the next 26 years to construct the Miami Lakshmi Narayan Mandir, the first of its kind in South Florida. Pandit Doobay led an exuberant life as a devoted individual and disciple of Siddha Yoga as he worked to elevate spiritual and social values in the name of dharma. Pandit Doobay is survived by his wife Nandini; six children Shakuntala, Nirmala, Gayatri, Ravi, Mahendra, and Khemraj; and his ten grandchildren. He will forever be remembered as a beacon of light and purveyor of profound wisdom as his embodiment of grace, light, and compassion remains a pillar of this community.
