Stephen Jamurath's Obituary
Stephen “Steve/Tevo” Jamurath
Stephen Jamurath was born on the18th of October 1951 to the late Kanta and Sumeran; one of eight children, having six sisters and one brother in Trinidad and Tobago.
He attended Bamboo Grove Presbyterian School, at a tender age, being the dutiful son and brother that he was, he decided to shoulder the responsibility of helping his parents gardening and tending cows.
His humble journey originated in Bamboo Grove Settlement #1. He grew up climbing, cutting coconut, making cooks with his cousins, and liming when he wasn’t working or helping his family. He started playing mas with Stephen Lee-Heung and evolved to playing King Costumes. He was the first in the family to play mas and he started a tradition with his sisters, cousins, and now daughter.
Wanting a better life, he migrated to Canada and New York but then decided to return to Trinidad. I suppose it was his love for his family and numerous friends made him go back. At this time, he began working in the Ministry of Works department and also rearing chickens for extra income. During this time, he met a young woman named Sheila at a Carnival Fete and they eventually got married in 1982. Both were hard working and steadfast in their beliefs. They were blessed with a little girl named Gina in 1984. They all migrated to Miami in 1988 and set up a beautiful home and life.
While working in Miami he managed an Exxon Gas Station, then Chevron, and retired from Florida Power and Light as a meter reader. He loved to vacation in the summertime with his family in Naples, Florida and then started cruising with Sheila and Gina around the Caribbean.
He loved spending time with his family and friends, cooking and liming. He had a magnificent smile that lit up the room. If you asked him for anything he would not think twice. He was a generous, kind, and philanthropic individual.
Amongst all his roles in life, be it son, brother, husband, father or friend; what he most cherished and wished for was when he became a grandfather to his “Munny”.
Steve passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 26th, 2020 due to heart complications. We would like to thank family and friends for their thoughtful condolences during this time.
