Stephen Douglas Houlihan's Obituary
Beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend of many more, Stephen “Steve” Douglas Houlihan, age 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 8th, 2024 in Homestead, Florida.
He was born in Boston, MA on May 31, 1941 to the late John “Hap” and Josephine (Thibideau) Houlihan. He graduated high school from Springfield Trade High (1957) in Springfield, MA and received his AA degree from Miami-Dade College (1988). He went onto a successful 50-year entrepreneurial career between Massachusetts and Florida in the automotive industry where he owned and operated several successful businesses including gas and service stations, body shops, automotive dealerships and heavy equipment export. He later expanded into real estate and was an agent for several years in Homestead at Century 21.
For many years after his move to Homestead, Steve was an avid supporter of The Shriners and part of the weekly transportation team that takes children from Miami to their appointments at the Shriners Hospital in Tampa. He was also quite the popular guy riding his “little car” in many of the Shriners parades. He was a 3rd degree Mason and an also devoted advocate of the Miami Mahi Shrine.
His passions included anything mechanical, classic cars, flying his plane and riding his Gold Wing motorcycle to the keys with his “gang.” His other passions include spending time and traveling with his beloved wife, Jacqueline, spoiling his grandkids and enjoying time with all his friends.
Steve was known to love his wife and family very much as well as life itself. As his many friends can attest, his warm smile, positive demeanor and jokes on command made him a quick and long-lasting friend to many.
Steve was married twice, most recently to Jacqueline Blanchard Houlihan of Montreal, Quebec - (1986-present) and Carolyn Brunell Gammons of South Hadley, MA.
Steve is survived by his beautiful wife of 38 years, Jacqueline Houlihan of Homestead, FL; two daughters and a son; Kelli Houlihan of Rockingham, NC; Stephen Houlihan Jr. of Coral Springs, FL; and Kimberly Houlihan Pitoniak of West Springfield, MA. Four grandchildren, Natalie Munteanu and Kasey Pitoniak of West Springfield, MA; Summer and John Carlisle of Rockingham, NC. He also leaves two brothers and a sister in-law; Dave Houlihan, Feeding Hills, MA and Jerry and Pat Houlihan of Kennebunk, ME and many more nieces and nephews…and we can’t forget his Shih-Poo, Zoey!
He was predeceased by his brother, Jack Houlihan, and two sister in-laws, Margret (Jack) and Dede (Dave).
Memorial / celebratory details have yet to be determined.
