Sam Frank Nicotra's Obituary
Sam F. Nicotra was born on June 18, 1924, in Syracuse, NY to Anthony Nicotra and Josephine (Rao) and passed away peacefully on February 17, 2024, (just four months shy of his 100th birthday) surrounded by his loving family at his home in Boca Raton, Florida.
He is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Rosemarie (Oppedisano) of Boca Raton, FL; son Anthony Nicotra (Sandy) of Melbourne, FL; and daughter Joanne Nicotra (Carl) of Boca Raton, FL; granddaughters Christine Minasian (Robert) of Boca Raton, FL and Karen Michaelson (Gabriel) of Coral Springs, FL; grandsons Ryan Nicotra (Nadia) of Boynton Beach, FL and Salvatore Nicotra (Lizette) of Lehigh Acres, FL; great grandchildren Christopher, Kariann and Kaden Minasian; Noah, Kailey, Maximus and Jacob Michaelson; Aiden, Jace and Julianna Nicotra; and Gabriella Nicotra; a sister Nellie Robinson of Central Square, NY along with many nieces and nephews.
Sam is preceded in death by his son Salvatore, his sisters Josephine Towsley and Mellie Bergren and his brother John Nicotra.
Sam was a pioneer and a well-respected resident of the Florida City/Homestead, FL community since 1945. Although a devout Homestead resident, Sam and Rosemarie moved to Boca Raton in 2019 to be closer to his daughter and other family members. In his early years, together with his brother John, they formed Nicotra Farms to grow tomatoes and squash during the Florida growing season. They would return to Central Square, NY each year, where they grew lettuce and onion in the northern growing season.
In 1969, Sam and his brother John, along with their wives Rosemarie and Joan, also built the Sea Glades Motel on US1 in Florida City, which they operated until 1979.
Sam had many lifelong friends and acquaintances and will be dearly missed by his devoted family and friends. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 27th at Branam Funeral Home, 809 N. Krome Ave, Homestead, FL. Visitation is between 11am-2:00pm. Father Jim will give a sermon at 1:30 with a 2:30 interment at Caballero Rivero Palms Woodlawn, Naranja, FL.
