Ruby J. Wilcox's Obituary
Janie was married to Edgar Brown until 1971. She then met and married the love of her life, William ”Bill” A. Wilcox in 1972. When they meet, she was raising 6 of her 10 kids. They even took the 3 youngest ones on their dates. They eloped to Georgia to get hitched on September 18th She said “What kind of man marries a woman with 6 kids? Either he’s crazy or he must really love me”. They were never away from each other for long. He talked her into wearing hot pants and Go-Go Boots. She talked him into wearing crazy costumes for Halloween. If one was in the hospital the other one was there too. Just to make sure all was okay. She worked at the Green Frog Restaurant on Tamiami Trail for many years, Dad worked at Hebert Oldsmobile. Then afterwards she worked at Tony’s Donut Shop and he worked at Caskey Edwards. They later owned Janie’s Place Restaurant, Janie’s Place 2 Restaurant, and Piccadilly Pub. She just loved to feed people. They raised their family in Homestead. She loved spending time with her kids, grandkids, and friends. She loved yard sales, country music, clogging at Alabama Jacks, and Christmas with the kids.
Janie was preceded in death by her best friend and husband, Bill Wilcox; her son, Eddie Glen “Red” Brown; her daughter, Pamela D. Long Brown; her great-granddaughter, Audrey Lee “Rose” Ann Martin; her parents, Rafe and Mary Jane Parker; her brothers, Billy and Johnny Parker; and her sister, Jacqueline (Joseph) Proto. She is survived by her daughters; Janie Darlene (Ed) Bayless of Ardmore, Okl., Joanie M. (Jim) Vanek of Prague, Neb., Cynthia (Larry) Ourada of Prague, Neb., Mari Jean Bunch of Louisville, Ky, Catherine Falcon of Ark., Alice M. “Texas” Brown of Homestead, Fla., and her son, Shawn (Debbie) Brown of Tampa, Fla. She is also survived by brothers, James Rafe Parker of Ala. and Ricky Calvin Parker of Quincy, Fla., and sisters, Margaret Ann (John “Sparkey”) Sparks of Tallahassee, Fla., and Minnie Sue (Thomas) Willis of Bainbridge, Ga. Janie enjoyed her 20 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren and one on the way. Janie had many nieces and nephews. She leaves behind numerous close friends from far and wide. She was loved and will be missed by many.
Services will be held at Branam Funeral Home 809 N Krome Ave, Homestead on Friday, February 28th, at 11am, with Burial Services to follow at 2pm, Palms Woodlawn , 27100 Old Dixie Hwy, Homestead, FL 33032
