Rosa M Saez's Obituary
Rosa María Maza Sáez, Rosi to most, passed away on June 24, 2021. She was one of the victims of the tragic collapse of the Champlain Towers South in Surfside, Florida.
Rosi was born in Havana, Cuba, on August 15, 1950. She was the fifth child of Manuel Maza and María de los Angeles (Niñita) Miquel. Growing up, the family lived in Puerto Rico, Colombia, Argentina, and Venezuela. She graduated from high school at the Academy of the Assumption in Miami and received her B.A. from the College of the Sacred Heart in Santurce, Puerto Rico. Later on, she obtained her M.B.A. from Florida International University (FIU). She was one of the first women to do so.
She worked at FIU for many years in various capacities. Her last role was Director of Academic Support Services. After she retired, her love of travel drew her to a new successful career as an advisor for Express Travel in Coral Gables.
Her children and grandchildren were her priority, but she was also close to her siblings and their children. She had many other interests, hobbies, and a serious commitment to helping others. She enjoyed gardening, biking, book clubs, working on ceramics, and, of course, planning trips.
Throughout her life, Rosi became involved in a number of organizations, among them Fairchild Gardens, Epiphany, her parish, Casa Manresa, and Centro de Espiritualidad Ignaciana.
She is survived by her two sons, Carlos (Molly) and Pedro (Pembry); her grandchildren Elena, Lucía, Carlos Javier, Joaquín, Sylvie, and Annette; and, her siblings María Lanz, Elena Trujillo, Manuel, Margarita Cruz, Enrique, Ignacio, Cecilia, and their children.
Friends are invited to express their condolences at the Church of the Epiphany (8235 SW 57th Ave) on July 20 at 10:00am. Mass will follow at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers and other acts of kindness, the family asks that donations be made to the Centro de Espiritualidad Ignaciana in her name (https://ceimiami.org/rosi-maza).
