As a “CM” graduate , Class of ‘62, Mr. Perry was my Freshman algebra teacher before a High School.
was constructed. Although I wasn’t a “B-ball” guy, I was impressed with his humility, determination, and belief in being a TEACHER . We watched each other grow as I literally “bumped into this giant” in the locker room one day, I asked his name and he said “Lou Alcindor”, and told me he was here in West Roxbury to learn to be a better B’ball player and he was from New York City, and they told him to go to Boston and see Coach Perry at Catholic Memorial. I was in total awe at his height, and knew Mr Perry could help him go further,….he became a MAJOR Player for the Knicks and went on to become, Lou Alcindor, or Kareem Jabar, (I’m pushing eighty myself) but Coach Perry whipped him into someone to remember as well!
He truly “taught” and knew how to get the best from ALL of us, and enough to be proud to have known him.
