In Loving Memory of
Philomène Lafontant Whisenant
September 24, 1924 – June 22, 2026
Philomène Lafontant Whisenant, of Miami, Florida, peacefully entered into eternal rest on June 22, 2026, at the remarkable age of 101 years.
Born on September 24, 1924, in Anse-à-Veau, Haiti, Philomène was the beloved daughter of the late Rézinette and Emile Lafontant. She was one of thirteen children and was blessed to grow up alongside her cherished siblings: Obrian, Lhérison, Boizion, Rodolphe, Joachim, Rézila, Agnès, Amise, Corine, Emilie, Acélie, and Elvire.
A devoted mother and loving matriarch, Philomène’s greatest joy was her family. She was blessed with many children, including her beloved daughter, Dr. Darline Thorson, and was preceded in death by her cherished son, Jean-Claude.
With courage and determination, Philomène immigrated from Haiti to Boston, Massachusetts, in search of greater opportunities. There, she became a trusted and beloved member of the Shepen family, faithfully serving as their cook for more than 15 years. Her dedication, loyalty, and caring nature earned the respect and affection of everyone who knew her.
Following her retirement, Philomène made her home in Miami, Florida, where she spent the last 29 years of her life surrounded by family, friends, and countless cherished memories.
Philomène was a woman of many talents and gifts. She possessed a generous heart, unwavering faith, quiet strength, and a nurturing spirit that touched everyone she encountered. She welcomed others with warmth, offered wisdom through life’s challenges, and gave freely of herself. Her love extended beyond her immediate family to all who were blessed to know her.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, faith, and compassion that will live on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family, and dear friends. Her influence reached generations, and her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her.
Although our hearts are saddened by her passing, we celebrate a life beautifully lived—a life marked by perseverance, kindness, sacrifice, and unconditional love. We find comfort in knowing that her legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Matthew 25:23
Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and she was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.
