Paul Anthony Schafer's Obituary
Paul Anthony Schafer, a longtime resident of Homestead, Florida, passed away unexpectedly on June 3, 2022. He was 66. Paul was born on November 21, 1955, in Springfield, Illinois, one of eight children of Raymond and Erlene Schafer. Paul had four children of his own that he loved more than life: Carol Ann (Seth), Paul “Tony,” Chalice (Hans), and Nickie (Donato); grandchildren Tiffany, Anthony, Nicole, Felix, Jenna, Katie, Raymond, and Erlene; and four great grandchildren. Nothing in the world brought him more joy. He loved treating his family to breakfast at Loly’s, where you could find him every morning. Paul worked for years building pool enclosures and aluminum patio roofs. In his later years, he was sought out for his engineering abilities and precise measuring of pool enclosure masterpieces, many of which can be found at Ocean Reef Club. No one did it better, and he knew it. In his spare time, he loved going for rides on his custom Harleys, especially accompanied by his daughters, sons-in-law, and close circle of friends. Paul also deeply loved music, expressly folk; John Prine was a favorite. Paul was a talented musician himself, playing electric and bass guitar, and a mean boogie woogie bumble bee on the piano. He was also an avid reader, especially of Clive Cussler’s thriller novels, and he loved to watch Westerns. While many may have been fooled by his appearance (black T-shirt, jeans, and a beard reminiscent of ZZ Top), his intelligence was legendary. They didn’t call him Know It All Paul for nothing. He loved to aggravate his kids and his friends at the Legion with his intelligent humor, but he was always there for encouragement too, “Never a bad day, just bad moments.” Paul was a veteran and proudly served his country as a Weapons Specialist in the U.S. Air Force, attaining the rank of Sergeant. His sharp mind and loving heart will be missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will held on Saturday, July 9, 2022, from 12pm to 5pm at Branam Funeral Home located at 809 N Krome Avenue Homestead, Florida 33030.
