Omar Jimenez's Obituary
Omar Jimenez, 93, was born on June 30, 1926 in Matanzas, Cuba, and passed away peacefully on February 18, 2020 in Pembroke Pines, FL with his family by his side. Omar was the loving husband of the late Maria de Los Ángeles Molina Jimenez of 52 years.
He was a devoted father of his three daughters he adored; Graciela (Julian) Cadena, Xiomara (Joel) Reyes, and Irma (Jeff) Teune. They will miss him immensely. Cherished grandfather of nine grandchildren: Omar (Rebecca Rosario) Cadena, Priscilla Cadena (Justin) de Hernandez, Grace Diana Cadena, Kristel (Juan) Ruperez, Kristina Reyes, Josiah Reyes, Ian Teune, Jessica (Sean) McBrearty, and Elizabeth Teune. He is the dearest great-grandfather of Azure De La Cruz, Sevin De La Cruz, Gabriel Ishamael Torres, Ignacio Joaquin Hernandez, Charlie Rose Cadena, Kamila Ruperez and Katalina Ruperez.
Omar migrated with his family to the United States from Cuba in 1968. He kept strong family ties and was the fond brother of the late Armando Jimenez, Zoila Nodarse, Consuelo Jimenez, Manolo Jimenez, Jose Ramon Jimenez, Graciela Jimenez, Leonardo Jimenez and Ricardo Jimenez. He was a staple in the Jimenez family and was the beloved uncle of many nieces and nephews. His absence will be mourned by all the lives he touched.
Omar was a longtime resident in Chicago, IL where he worked hard and was a keen businessman who opened and owned Omar’s Jewelry in the Logan Square neighborhood, and was well known in the Spanish community for his generous spirit and pleasant personality. He was a provider, risk taker, a humble man who told great stories, very charismatic and funny, who always left a smile on every face he encountered. His legacy continues to live on in the hearts and minds of everyone who interacted with him.
