Olga Elena Sammur's Obituary
Olga E. Sammur, age 84, passed away peacefully in the presence of loved ones on Monday, April 15th, 2024, at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mt. Kisco, New York. She was born on September 17th, 1939, in Colombia, South America, emigrating to the United States with her husband, Nasim, from the town of Bethlehem in Palestine, following their marriage on June 16, 1963. Fluent in Spanish, English and Arabic, Olga was able to unite the multiple cultures of her extended family. For example, she was an avid and exceptional cook, creatively fusing different cuisines from various countries. She was also a talented seamstress, often making clothing and blankets for herself and family. She enjoyed many kinds of music including Pop, Country and Religious, and international music such as Latin and Middle Eastern. You would often find her listening to songs from Julio Iglesias, Tom Jones and Dolly Parton, in that order. Despite her communication and mobility challenges later in life, Olga had an uncanny ability to reach people in a very deep and profound way non-verbally with her smile and contagious laugh. Her nature was to give freely of herself from her talents, expecting nothing in return. She understood the true source of lasting joy in life was to love God, love others, and to be loved.
Olga is survived by her two children, Gloria and Anthony, their spouses, Larry and Sheila, her cherished sister, Regina, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family, friends, and others are invited to the Memorial Plan Westchester Funeral Home at 9800 SW 24th Street, Miami, FL, 33165 on Sunday, April 28th from 6:00PM to 10:30PM to grieve her passing, and remember the wonderful gifts and joy she shared with all who knew her. She will be laid to rest next to her husband the following day, Monday, April 29th, at 1:00PM at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Cemetary located at 11411 NW 25th Street, Miami, FL 33172.
In Lieu of flowers make the donation to WORLD CENTRAL KITCHEN.
