Olga Cedeno's Obituary
Olga Cedeño passed away on December 29th, 2023 after soldiering through a myriad of health complications. Born to John and Rose Vargas on February 10th, 1953, Olga was a true representative of her home state of New York - headstrong, opinionated, but also fiercely loyal to her loved ones. A short move to Cuba brought her a baby brother named after her father, and a return to New York brought her to her husband Oriol. After having two children, Rosallyn and Kelvin, Olga moved with her family to Florida to raise them in an environment that didn’t involve shoveling snow or taking the subway. Olga rose through the ranks of the hotel industry to become a general manager, all the while honing in on her mother bear instincts of protecting her young (even after they were not-so-young) and making sure they wanted for nothing. Her direct approach to life was indicative of her truthful nature. While some may have balked at her flippancy towards social etiquette, those that knew her knew that the depth of her love and generosity was anything but flippant. The scope of her Christmas presents became the stuff of legend, and she would extend that joy of giving in other ways whether it was to charities like St. Jude or to homeless gentlemen asking for spare change (just never ask her to fold in a game of poker). It is therefore fitting that her final season of life would be during her favorite season of the year, and those that survive her today will ensure that they continue passing on that holiday spirit she exhibited with such exuberance and gusto.
