Nilda Cruz's Obituary
Nilda was born in Aguacatan, Guatemala in July 14, 1948 to her mother and father, Lidia and Carlos Gordillo. She fell asleep in the Lord on March 23, 2020 and is now resting peacefully. She moved to Miami, FL during her teen years and soon welcomed her first child, Jose, in 1968 after making the United States her permanent home. She was married to her beloved husband Eduardo Cruz for over forty one years, and the couple with full hearts welcomed Priscilla in 1979 and Eduardo Jr. in 1984. To say that Nilda's children were her foundation and strength is an understatement. She was extremely proud of all her children. As any exceptional mother would do, she lived and breathed to give her children all that she could, driven by unconditional love. Her capacity for that love and faith grew so much more when her grandchildren arrived into this world. Dimitri was her first grandchild born in 1998. Emily arrived in 2011, Benjamin in 2015 and Ethan in 2018. If ever a Grandmother poured her entire heart for her grandchildren, it was undoubtedly Nilda. From babysitting, medical appointments and school drop-off and pick-up's, Super "Abuelita" was always there.
Nilda's family bond is as strong as they come. Her love for her parents, sisters and brothers could never be broken, for she was their rock. She never failed to stand by their side, particularly during times of illness when medical advice was in need. Nilda was the unofficial medical expert in the family and therefore always the one to call. But the special bond between Nilda and her brothers and sisters was beyond compare and continued through her final moments on Earth. Her sisters were perhaps her strongest support system. During the last few months of Nilda's life, "Sister Time" was Celebration Time. Nilda’s siblings have always provided for each other during times of distress, unselfish and as tough as they come. Her love for her parents was likewise exceptionally strong until the very end. One could say that Nilda's greatest concern was how her mother would cope following the passing of her daughter. Nilda repeatedly asked her family to provide strength and support for her mom (and to many of us our Abuelita) through these difficult times.
Nilda dedicated most of her career to working in medical laboratories, however some would say her knowledge in the medical community went far beyond the labs. She was highly skilled in her work, as she was with all else in which she poured her heart, and for that reason Nilda never failed to serve as a role model of determination, perseverance, knowledge, and the drive to better her life as it benefitted those she loved so greatly. Her immense love and boundless skill were rooted in her Catholic faith, and the Christ and Virgin whom she so loved dearly.
Nilda is survived by her husband Eduardo Cruz, daughter Priscilla Cruz Martinez (Alex), sons Jose Godur (Anastasia) & Eduardo Cruz Jr and grandchildren Dimitri Godur, Emily Martinez, Benjamin Cruz and Ethan Cruz. Nieces, nephews, cousins, and all in her beloved family both in Miami and Guatemala have viewed Nilda as their own mother and greatest role model in all capacities, and for that her memory shall always be eternal.
