Nancy Hidalgo-Gato Fernandez's Obituary
Nancy Librada Hidalgo-Gato Fernandez, 77, passed away on December 7, 2021 in Miami, Florida.
Nancy was born in Santa Clara, Cuba on January 18, 1944. She was exiled to the United States from Cuba in 1962 and lived in Miami, Florida. She moved to Orlando, Florida after marrying Luis Felipe Fernandez in 1968. She then returned in 1973 to live in Miami until her passing in 2021.
Nancy completed her high school education upon arriving in Miami. She then proceeded to move to Orlando, attend Central Florida Technology, and graduated with a degree in Education. Upon moving back to Miami in 1973, she entered the Miami Dade County Public School System as a teacher and taught at numerous schools throughout the county. She became Assistant Principal of Coconut Grove Elementary School and remained there for the last 13 years of her service. She retired from the school system after 35 years of service to the community and continued to substitute teach throughout her retirement years.
Family time at the beach, traveling the world, watching sports, and helping others were the joys of her life. Nancy was happiest cooking food for large gatherings of family and friends.
Survivors include her beloved son Luis Eduardo Fernandez of Orlando and three Grandchildren - Lucia Fernandez of Orlando, and Jorge and William Fernandez of Vero Beach. Surviving sisters include Mirtha Bianchi and Elsa Bello, and daughter-in-law Pamela Fernandez. She is preceded in death by her husband Luis Felipe Fernandez, son Jorge Felipe Fernandez, and sister Nina Castiniera.

A Memorial Mass will be held 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 16, 2021, at the Church of the Little Flower, 2711 Indian Mound Trail, Coral Gables, Florida 33134.
