Mike Gonzalez's Obituary
On December 1st, 2022, Major Mike Gonzalez, Retired Miami Police Department, passed away peacefully at home after a short illness, just 20 days from his 96th birthday. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he served as a Merchant Marine during WWII. He moved to Miami in 1946 and joined the police force shortly after. He was a veteran of the MPD for more than 41 years, most of those years as a homicide investigator. As a recipient of many awards and accolades for his outstanding service, he was the subject of several books praising his many successes solving homicide cases. He is survived by his wife Gloria, his brother Bob Gonzalez, his daughter Joan McMath, his son Charles Gonzalez and daughter Teresa Wright and many grandchildren. In retirement, Mike developed his talent as an artist working with stained glass, metal sculpting, and painting in various media. Mike touched the lives of many as a caring and loving man of strong character.
