Miguel Angel Gàrate's Obituary
Miguel Angel Gàrate, 90, passed peacefully on September 8, 2024, on the Feast of the Lady of Charity of El Cobre, the patron Saint of Cuba. Miguel was born September 13,1933 in Preston, Cuba, Oriente. A veteran of Brigade 2506 he fought valiantly in the invasion of Playa Giron (Bay of Pigs) in an attempt to overthrow the communist government of his beloved Cuba. He was subsequently captured by the communist regime and held as a prisoner of war for 18 months. Upon his release, Miguel returned to Miami to start his life in exile working in various sales and managerial roles in the textile and construction industries. He had a deep passion for history, the arts and baseball. He is survived by his three children - Miguel, Adriali and Luis - and five grandchildren. Miguel Angel Gàrate, de 90 años, falleció pacíficamente el 8 de Septiembre de 2024, el dia de la Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre, patrona de Cuba. Miguel nació el 13 de Septiembre de 1933 en Preston, Cuba, Oriente. Veterano de la Brigada 2506 luchó valientemente en la invasión de Playa Girón en un intento de derrocar al gobierno comunista de su amada Cuba. Posteriormente fue capturado por el régimen comunista y mantenido como prisionero de guerra durante 18 meses. Tras su liberación, Miguel regresó a Miami para comenzar su vida en el exilio trabajando en diversos puestos gerenciales y de ventas en la industria textil y de la construcción. Tenía una profunda pasión por la historia, las artes y el béisbol. Le sobreviven sus tres hijos -Miguel, Adriali y Luis- y cinco nietos.
