Dr. Medardo Alberto Cevallos Balda
Medardo Alberto Cevallos Balda, 88, died Thursday, March 5, 2020 at the North Shore Medical Center in Miami, Florida.
He leaves his wife of 58 years, Patricia Margarita Gomez-Piñan Ponce; his sons, Alberto Alonso , Medardo Felipe, Carlos Eduardo, Eva Patricia y David Fernando; his 12 grandchildren: Sofia, David, Medardo A., Carlos F., Fernando, Sebastian, Alberto, Felipe, Domenica, Raphael, Daniel and Rachel; his two great grandchildren: Catalina y Lukas ; and his two sisters: Laura and Melba Cevallos Balda.
Born and raised in Portoviejo, Ecuador, the son of Dr. Medardo Cevallos Mieles and Mrs. Maria Mercedes Balda Menendez.
After graduating from the Eloy Alfaro Military Academy in Quito (high school), he attended the Universidad Autonoma de Mexico, graduating in 1959 as M.D, and specialized in the field of cardiology for 4 more years. After becoming a medical doctor, he met his wife Patricia, and married her in 1961 in Mexico City. He returned to Ecuador in 1962 to establish his personal medical practice and was part of the staff of various prestigious hospitals in Guayaquil. Over the years, his reputation and expertise in the field of cardiology led him to be recognized country wide and became a Fellow of the American Association of Cardiology.
Dr. Cevallos Balda also dabbled in the field of business; becoming president of several companies owned and operated together with this sons. These companies had the honor of having him as their president of the board of directors. He was also the president of the “Fundacion Cardiologica y Gerontologica Dr. Medardo Cevallos Mieles”, a non-profit organization devoted to improving the health and quality of life of older people.
Dr. Cevallos Balda became a resident of Miami since 1999.
Visitation begins Monday, March 9th, 2020 at 6:00 pm at Memorial Plan Westchester Funeral Home, 9800 SW 24th St, Miami, FL, 33165. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, March 10th 10:00 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 11691 NW 25Th St, Doral, FL, 33172
