Maryann Serletic Marshall's Obituary
MARY ANN MARSHALL
September 3, 1929 – June 29, 2023
She was born on September 3, 1929 in Chicago, Il to the late William A and Mary G Serletic. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Marshall, her parents, brother William (Billy) Serletic, sisters Theresa Shashaty, and Barbara Hagan.
Mary Ann was our Family dearly loved Matriarch, Sister, Aunt, Grand Mother and kind and caring friend to so many. She characterized herself as “Mean and Sassy” but she was not that. That was her persona, just loved humor, making friends and being around family. Her repertoire of jokes made everyone laugh. She lived by traditional values. Her love of God, Family, Friends, and Country shined throughout her life. Over the years Aunt Mary Ann was always included in the Hagan and Shashaty family gatherings and celebrations. A pet lover, she had a fondness for her cat and dog family members. She loved to travel and often shared stories of her visits to European countries. She had a long and successful 32-year career with ATT. Starting as a telephone operator, she rose to higher level of skill and responsibility in telecommunications. She trained and supervised telephone operations, consulted with businesses for placement of telephone services and managed telephone operating rooms. She was very proud of her role and success as a union representative working with employees and management to resolve workplace issues. She was very active in labor union causes and often involved in the legislative process at the State and Federal level. Mary Ann supervised operations of the telephone room for the 1972 Democratic National Convention in Miami Beach, Florida. She attended Gesu Catholic School in her youth and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Hialeah, Florida and later Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Miami Lakes, Florida.
Mary Ann is survived by her step grandson Rick (Marshall) Johnson, great grandchildren, brothers Matthew (Matt) Serletic (Deanie), Bernard (Bernie) Serletic (Beverly), 18 nieces, nephews and several cousins.
The family would like to send our love and special thank you to niece Denise Hagan who provided loving care and comfort to Mary Ann in the past 9 months. Denise received kind and unfettered support during this period from Lori Jo Bono White, Hagan family member and cherished friend of Mary Ann.
