Maria Magdalena Whitehead Fonseca's Obituary
Maria Magdalena Whitehead, 92, our beloved Queen, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and matriarch, entered into eternal rest on October 12, 2025 peacefully at her home in Miami Gardens surrounded by four generations of family and fortified by the sacrements of her catholic faith. She lived a life marked by grace, faith, and steadfast love as the heart and foundation of four familial generations. She was was born in Yabacoa, Puerto Rico on May 27th, 1933 to parents Toribio Fonseca and Ramona Martinez. As a child she bagan her schooling at Parroquia Santos Angeles Custodios and expressed her devotion to her catholic faith by singing in her church's choir as well as by beginningher study of scripture from as early as twelve years old. She was a dedicated homemaker, committed caregiver, exceptional nanny and nurturer which she demonstrated by taking custody of six of her grandchildren in a crucial moment during their young lives and dedicating herself to caring for her secound son’s children upon his incarceration. Her majesty is survived by her dear siblings Petra and Ramon, her loving children Audrey Santiago, Eugene Whitehead, Edwin Whitehead Sr., & Mark Anthony Whitehead. She is also survived by her beloved fourteen grandchildren, adored twenty one great grandchildren and precious three great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by four brothers, three sisters, her grandson Edwin Alexander Whitehead Jr., and her first great grandson Darrius ‘Dootae’ Colbert Jr. who will all reunite with her now in heaven. Maria graduated from Charon Williams College as a Nursing Assistant and after her schooing spent most of her professional career as a UM’s Bascon Palmer translator for special international cases and Nursing Assistant professional from which she retired after forty years of loyal duty. Maria was a devout parishioner of St. Mary’s Cathedral Church & School of Miami Florida from 1957 until passed peacefully into God’s hands. She was a proud member of the Elks Lodge, and was passionately commited to her community as shown by her involvement in PTA Parent for Miami High & Hialeah High, a TBPTA Parent for Hialeah Sr. High School, a Allapattah Community Advisory Board, and a Miami PD certified community representative. The personification of Her Late Majesty’s life lived is best defined with Matthew 25:23 stating “Well done, good and faithful servant…” which now rings true as she rejoices in the Kingdom of Heaven.
Her viewing will be held at Memorial Plan San Jose - Ferdinand on Friday, October 24, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
