Maria C Papazian's Obituary
Maria del Carmen Papazian
May 31, 1942 - August 16, 2022
Affectionately known as Nena, Maria del Carmen, 80, was born in Havana. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose Manuel Garcia and Clara Sergia Vila Garcia, and her daughter Maria del Carmen Papazian. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dr. Oscar Papazian, and daughters Varsenik Papazian and Nevy Papazian Kaminski and her son-in-law David Kaminski as well as granddaughters Varsenik Wilson, Annik Wilson, Sylvia Krupp, Clara Kaminski and Maria Kaminski.
A graduate of Escuela Madres las Escolapias, Maria del Carmen’s idyllic youth abruptly ended with the Cuban revolution in 1959. Still love prevailed and in 1961 she married her high school sweetheart at 19 years old. They were blessed with two daughters and in 1969 the family fled Cuba in search of freedom. The struggle to escape communism made her tough, but motherhood made her infinitely tender, kind and patient.
After living in Spain briefly, she achieved her dream of becoming a U.S. citizen. In 1976 they were blessed with a third daughter.
Maria del Carmen devoted herself unconditionally to her family and creating a happy home for them. She cooked the best hot cakes and sewed Oscar-worthy costumes. She invented the tradition of the birthday pajama and the pool pajama.
Maria del Carmen generously gave her love and support to all she loved, and her memory continues to guide and strengthen all who knew her.
