Manuel de Jesus Perez's Obituary
In loving memory of Manuel De Jesus Perez. Born in Santa Clara, Las Villas, Cuba on the 1st of January 1930, a day considered by many as the doorstep of the modern age. A time of change, growth and upheaval of the status quo, where the old world would begin to fade away and the new modern world began to rise—financial booms and crises, calls for independence and war, cultures, classes, and borders redefined. Year after year, decade after decade, this world would be shaped, and history written as Manuel would walk through his life. He would bear witness and experience some events first-hand in Castro’s Cuba. But if you ever spent more than 5 minutes with him, you would know that more than history, more than his principles, more than the treasures of this world— that there were only 5 events, 5 moments, 5 titles, that ever mattered to him to define his life: Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Great-Great-Grandfather. That, to him, was the measure of a life well-lived. “As long as I have that, what do I have to complain about? A little pain here and there? C’mon. For that and everything else you just need to have a little whisky and relax. Everything else will take care of itself.” Manuel de Jesus Perez passed away on April 12th, 2026, at the age of 96. He was surrounded by love and family and left us peacefully. His memory is a blessing and his presence sorely missed.
En memoria amorosa de Manuel De Jesús Pérez. Nacido en Santa Clara, Las Villas, Cuba el 1 de enero de 1930, un día considerado por muchos como la puerta de la era moderna. Una época de cambio, crecimiento y agitación del statu quo, donde el viejo mundo comenzaría a desvanecerse y el nuevo mundo moderno comenzaría a levantarse: auges y crisis financieras, llamadas a la independencia y la guerra, culturas, clases y fronteras redefinidas. Año tras año, década tras década, este mundo se formaría y se escribiría la historia mientras Manuel caminaría por su vida. Él sería testigo y experimentaría algunos eventos de primera mano en la Cuba de Castro. Pero si alguna vez pasaras más de 5 minutos con él, sabrías que más que la historia, más que sus principios, más que los tesoros de este mundo, que solo hubo 5 eventos, 5 momentos, 5 títulos, que alguna vez le importaron para definir su vida: esposo, padre, abuelo, bisabuelo y tararabuelo. Eso, para él, era la medida de una vida bien vivida. "Mientras tenga eso, ¿de qué tengo que quejarme? ¿Un poco de dolor aquí y allá? Vamos. Para eso y todo lo demás solo necesitas tomarte un poco de whisky y relajarte. Todo lo demás se arreglará solo". Manuel de Jesús Pérez falleció el 12 de abril de 2026 a la edad de 96 años. Estaba rodeado de amor y familia y nos dejó en paz. Su recuerdo es una bendición y se echa mucho de menos su presencia.
