I am heartbroken to learn of Mrs. Luz's passing. She's been a vibrant source of love and joy in my life for the past 35 years or so.
Grade-school me was madly in love with her son and despite my "secrecy", she knew. I'll never forget the day she finally told me she knew; she lovingly drew me into a hug and told me that she would love to have me as a daughter-in-law. lol Since then, she's always called me her "beautiful girl" (though for a while, she continued teasing me about the daughter in law thing. lol)
After graduation, Mrs. Luz befriended me on FB where she has continued to be supportive and encouraging through the years. We messaged each other a few times a year to catch up, and she would always react and comment on my posts. She was there for me through the loss of my parents, always reminding me that they loved me and would be proud of me.
Mrs. Luz - although you weren't able to reply, I hope that you saw this outpouring of love and appreciation in my last message. I hope you knew how much your love and friendship has always meant to me.
Thank you for EVERYTHING, and rest in peace.
With Love,
Heather Burkett-Ocasio
