Leung Phanitdasack's Obituary
Leung Phanitdasack, 79, was born August 12, 1942 in Kong Khai, Thailand. Mr. Phanitdasack died Wednesday, September 1, 2021. He leaves his wife of 60 years, Sone, his nine children: Phonethep (Air), Sinouane (Joy), Khouane (Kay), Vichith (Vic), Lith, Lo, Vilat, Lang and Phet (Mynoi), and 13 grandchildren: Alyssa, John (JJ), Jeffery, Johnathan (AA), Leungson (Coco), Katerina (Lily), Serena, Austin, Justin, Satawat (DJ), Lydia, Mulan and Mandarin.
Mr. Phanitdasack and his wife immigrated from Vientiane, Laos and arrived in the United States in March 1981. They began their lives in North Miami, Florida. Briefly after arriving to the states, they lost their young child, Deng, at the tender age of 3.
Mr. Phanitdasack was the patriarch of the family. In those early days, he cared for his nine children while his wife worked all day. His daily tasks including taking them to school, routine doctor’s visits and playing Mr. Mom — all without speaking a word of English.
Determined to make a better life for his family, Mr. Phanitdasack went on to work numerous odd jobs, including tarping roofs. He eventually landed a job with his daughter, Sinouane, at the prestigious Sonesta Beach Hotel in Key Biscayne, as part of the kitchen cleaning staff. Mr. Phanitdasack loved what he did.
In 1987, he and his wife acquired what is now a well-known little mom-and-pop restaurant called Bangkok City Thai and Seafood Restaurant featuring the most authentic and delectable Thai cuisine. Together they later built and created a second restaurant called Ruson Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi. In 2011, Mr. Phanitdasack retired leaving his restaurants to his children to operate. Both restaurants continue to thrive to this day. His spirit and love for family live on. We will forever hold him in our hearts.
