One of my favorite memories of Julio were all the amazing haircuts that he gave me whenever I visited with my wife (his daughter, Vanessa)
I would sometimes not cut my hair for months as a joke so that he would have to sit and stare at all the inches he would need to cut off to make me look presentable to all the visitors during the holidays.
Haircuts are often a labor of love. Sometimes, however, you sit down in a barbershop and it only takes 15 minutes. Maybe the person is extremely skilled, but sometimes you just received a rushed cut.
Julio took pride in his haircuts. He would make a single cut, stand back, look at my entire head, and then make another cut. He would circle the chair and you could see the gears turning in his head as he planned out his hair cutting route. Vanessa would sometimes look at the clock and exclaim that if he didn't hurry up, we'd all miss dinner. The haircut sometimes took an hour and a half. But, boy, was it the best haircut I ever got. Julio didn't care about how long it took. All he cared about is that his son-in-law got the most amazing haircut.
This is how Julio looked at life. He didn't cut corners. He firmly believed in making everything as beautiful as it could be. Whether it was cleaning the small droplets off the sink after I finished washing my hands or making sure there wasn't a speck of dust anywhere in the house.
Upon introspection, Julio proved that he was an amazing husband, dad, and friend. He was and will always be a role model of mine. I occasionally run my hand through my hair and know that hard work, love, and dedication is all that you need to make an eternalized impact on this world.
Rest in peace, Julio. You will be missed so much. I love you and I promise that you will forever hold the championship haircut trophy forever.
