Jorge Luis Valdes was born on October 1, 1947 in Taguasco, Cuba and passed away on January 5, 2026 in Miami. FL.
At the age of 14, Jorge left Cuba to the United States with his older brother Maño through the Peter Pan program. Eventually Jorge moved to New York, where he worked administrative temp jobs for the biggest advertising and pharmaceutical companies to support his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, and later earned his MBA. Soon after, he met the love of his life Juana and they got married. Years later they moved to Miami Florda where they raised their two daughters (Susana and Viviana).
In his twenties, Jorge was a youth leader in the Hispanic Presbyterian church. In New York, he and Juana were involved in a church plant where Jorge was a key leader in searching for and solidifying the leadership of the new church. Throughout his life, Jorge respected, honored, and welcomed the influence and the love of God into his life. It was from that foundation of love that he gave back to so many others.
Jorge built a career overseeing Sales & Marketing for Latin America for major international corporations, mostly through his own company. He traveled the world during this time (mostly with Juana) and gained a passion for international politics, business, and culture. Even after “retirement,” he continued consulting.
He was proud of his Cuban roots and a true patriot of his home - the United States. He always talked about how America gave him so many opportunities and was able to live OR pursue the America dream. He continued paying it forward throughout his entire life, passionate about helping people who exiled from Cuba and guided them once in the United States.
He truly had a “can do” attitude that transpired in everything he did. He loved people and he loved life. He was a true fighter. He was also a very positive person, always emphasizing what he was grateful for and how he can help the next person. He was known for his generosity, his big heart, and his encouragement to “make it happen.”
Most important thing to him was his family. He loved his family dearly. He was a devoted husband, loving and sacrificial dad (and father-in-law) and an intentional grandpa to his two grandchildren – “Campion” and “Princesa.” He will always be remembered as a present and deeply caring person to his family and extended family.
Jorge was preceded in death by his father Alberto, his mother Maria, and his brother Maño. He is survived by his loving wife of more than 50 years Juana Valdes, his beloved daughters Susana León and Viviana Valdes, and his grandchildren Julian and Mia León. He will be extremely missed but his legacy will remain in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
Psalm 23:6 “Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.”
