Jo-Ann Core McMillan's Obituary
Jo-Ann Core McMillan passed away peacefully on December 12, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and her husband. She is survived by her brother, Robert Core (Janet) of Orlando; her son, Cooper McMillan (Jane) of Miami; her daughter, Judi Nickel (Kevin) of Apopka; her son, Steve McMillan of Miami; nine grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Jo-Ann was a lifelong member of Silver Palm United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and served as the Sunday School Director for many years. She graduated from Redland School and worked at Redland Jr. High for many years, as well as being a part of the Redland School Reunion Committee. She was a member of the Community Concert Board and was involved with the Homestead Center for the Arts.
She was well known for her cooking and baking skills, the handmade potholders, and the thousands of baby blankets she made over the years. She had many friends, some going back to her elementary school days. She was the family counselor in good times and bad, the organizer of family get-togethers, and the "keeper upper" of our immediate and extended families. She could recall names, birthdates, and marriages all from memory. She was our family hub, and she will be missed by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made in her memory to Residing Hope, Attn: Development Department, 51 Children’s Way, Enterprise, Florida 32725. Residing Hope was formerly known as the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home.
