Jesus Hernandez's Obituary
Jesus Hernandez, 93, died Friday, January 5, 2024. Jesus was born in Pinar Del Dio, Cuba. He was the beloved son of the late Segundo Hernandez and the late Tomasa Paèz.
He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. His strength and courage to leave Cuba and build his life here in this country is a small testament of his strength. He always spoke about building a life here in this country, “El que lucha, lo logra”. He taught his family perseverance through many difficult moments, unprecedented illnesses, and everything in between, up until he was called home. He taught his children what it was to give selflessly and nurture others through profound relationships. He always gave his grandchildren and great grandchildren unconditional love.
He was preceded in death by his parents Segundo Hernandez and Tomasa Páez; oldest son Gilberto Hernandez and many of his siblings. He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Cecilia Hernandez; his sister Adela Cabrera; his brother Ezequiel Hernandez; his sister Aleida Marquez; his children Iris Urquiola, Isis Napoles and Jorge Hernandez; his adored grandchildren, Gilbertico, Jorge, Michael, Jessica, Jenny, Junior, Carolita, Robertico, Jackie, Janelle; his 15 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank all of his friends throughout the years who were his extended family and provided a sense of comfort in this new country. The selfless emotional and physical assistance provided by his niece, Mercy Perez, during these last few years has been invaluable to the family.
Saying goodbye is very hard, but we are comforted knowing that he is peacefully with the Lord and we will see him again one day.
A funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, January 11, at Memorial Plan Westchester Funeral Home, with burial in Memorial Plan Flagler Memorial Park on Friday January 12 at 2 pm.
