Jerry Alvarez's Obituary
Jeronimo (Jerry) Alvarez a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, a teacher to hundreds, a mentor too many, and a friend to all-died peacefully at home on August 21, 2021, accompanied by his loving wife Cary, with whom he happily shared the last 46 years of his life. Born on September 26, 1941 in Güines, Cuba and raised in San Nicolas de Bari to Jose Jeronimo Alvarez and Eugenia Lopez, Jeronimo was a guajiro/cowboy from the beginning to the end. He dearly loved his children, fruit trees, traveling, fishing and hunting. He was happiest in the yard eating mangoes and lychees, watching his grandchildren run around. He reached legendary professional heights that even he could not believe. He credits his work experience to his mentor Mr. Ervin Bond of AD Weiss in Hollywood, Florida, Mr. Bond, told Him, that with his intelligence and charisma he should open his own company. He took that advice and opened the doors of Trade Litho, Inc. on August 21, 1973. He was at his best pacing around Trade Litho; taking time to connect with every employee and keeping tabs on all pending jobs. His employees best remember him as a generously warm, witty, and loving leader. After 25 years he partnered with his longtime friend and compadre Jorge Estarellas and formed a group in which he called his Puerto Rican Group. Finally, he merged Trade Litho, Inc. with Robert Dunn of Franklin Press, whom he loved and learned to appreciate, he always said, had he met Bob earlier in his career he would have been a billionaire.
Educated at Los Hermanos Maristas in Havana, Cuba, Camden Military Academy in South Carolina and later at the University of Miami in Florida, he was wise beyond his education, and people of all ages and stages in life sought his advice and benefitted from his counsel. He is best remembered for his jokes, his wildly entertaining stories, his powerful testimony, his abiding work ethic, his generous smile and vibrant personality, along with his willingness to help anyone at any time.
In his later years, when kidney disease robbed him of his strength and stamina, it gave him a gentleness we treasured. During this time, he taught us patience and allowed us to show him a small measure of the service he had long showed all of us.
His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his adoring eternal wife and longtime caregiver, Maria Caridad Alvarez; his children Julian Jeronimo Alvarez, Alberto Jeronimo Alvarez, Vivian Alvarez- Mcclamma, Mark Rodriguez-Alvarez, Cynthia Rodriguez-Campbell, Jeronimo Alvarez, jr., Eduardo Jeronimo Alvarez, his 11 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and the 3 sons that he loved as his own, Jay Zerquera, Benny Cabrera and Pepe Reyes, jr.
The family also wishes to send a special thank you to his doctors and friend cardiologist Dr. Fernando Hernandez, his nephrologist Dr. Mario Almeida, and his urologist Dr. Jorge Echenique. A thank you to the dialysis clinic Fresenius Kidney Home Care Dr. Alberto Esquenazi, of the Miami Kidney Group, his nurses and staff for extending his final years. His legacy will continue to live on within his family and friends and the many souls which he graced with his wisdom and love.
