Mr Jerrold Oysborn Dumas' Obituary
Jerrold O. Dumas, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather, passed peacefully in Miami, FL surrounded by family on May 21, 2024. Jerrold was born in Grove Hill, Alabama on August 4, 1935 to Ivy Clay Dumas and Annie Mae Vaughn, the youngest of 8 siblings. Jerrold was lovingly known as “Goat” to his friends and family.
Jerrold was a successful furniture manufacturer. Dumas Brothers Manufacturing Company, a business he founded with his three brothers in Jackson, AL, grew to be one of the largest manufacturers of living room furniture in the country. In the late 60s, Jerrold moved to Miami, FL and found tremendous success as a wholesale furniture distributor.
He later began manufacturing mattresses, where his many clients were both domestic and international. Jerrold will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor. He was warm and charismatic, and always the first to laugh at his own joke. Jerrold loved enormously and unconditionally and was immensely proud of his large family.
He is survived by his adoring wife of nearly 50 years, Rosario Quesada and their children Cristina M. Dumas of Atlanta, GA, and Jerrold A. (Cynthia) Dumas of Miami Shores, FL; the children from his first marriage Monty (Heidi) Dumas of Hollywood, FL, Janet Pugh of Meridian, MS, Sandra Dumas of Louisiana, Darrell Dumas of Meridian, MS; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for memorial contributions to Jerrold’s parish, St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Miami Shores,
Florida.
Jerrold’s life will be celebrated at the Miami Shores Country Club on Saturday, May 25th from 5-8 pm.
