“Have I ever told you kids about my friend, Jim, the Wizard?”…
That’s how, at least for my kids, the legend and tales of “Jim, the Wizard” began. While most tales would began in a tavern where brave adventurers would be gathered, this tale would start for me at Florida Atlantic University where I first met this majestic man.
For anyone who was fortunate enough to have met Jim, you would experience that radiant smile, and that signature voice, a depth that evoked heart, so much heart.
For me, I quickly learned, that in the a programming perspective I had met someone unlike any other. So same tales I eluded to earlier, would start to become true here, not in the tavern since, but that I had in fact met a Wizard. Jim is still to this day, and will always be, the GREATEST programmer ever. His “class” would not be only Wizard, he would also have to be a Bard, Paladin, Warrior, and all. But the “class” he might excel at most is not found in a DnD Players Manual, it is “Lover”, and specially “Lover of Maite”.
I don’t recall how many years I worked with Jim, but there was one thing that was clear, there was no room for “locker room banter”, no glances at any passing women, or any of the sort, this is a man who loved his wife in the truest definition of the word. Loyalty to the fullest.
So when I tell my kids of “Jim, the Wizard” it is not a fictional tale of or created on a character sheet, it is a true tale of a man of which few remain to this day.
I love you Jim, my prayers and rosaries for you will never cease, I know you sit around an epic table, surrounded by Saints and Angels, running sweet campaigns and slaying demons galore.
Thank you for allowing me to experience what a true man should be.
