James Thadson Ivey Jr's Obituary
God sent Thad Ivey into this world on March 18, 1942. He was born in Kendal Hospital, Dade County Florida, to James Thadson Ivey Sr. and Dorothy Smith Ivey. He grew up in Perrine, graduating from Southwest Senior High school in 1960. As a boy, he always loved and was very active in sports. After graduation he attended Miami Dade Junior College. He enlisted in the Army in January of 1961 and served until 1964. While in the service he served in top secret communications. After his discharge he attended the University of Miami and worked for Publix. He then went to work for RCA Computer Company. IBM hired him in 1968 where he worked in their technical field, and then as a manager for over 25 years before retiring. After retiring from IBM, Thad went to work for Community Bank as their purchasing manager. He retired from there in 2012.
In 1967 he met his wife, Cindy. They were married June 4, 1968. They just celebrated their 55th anniversary. Three children blessed their home, Melissa, Jason, and Melanie. He was a wonderful father, always very active in their lives. He loved coaching his children in little league sports, and cheering them on in every game. As a family they spent a lot of time together, and enjoyed spending time in the mountains of North Carolina. Thad always made sure there was plenty of quality time to spend with his wife and children.
Thad was a devoted Christian and a longtime member of the Church of the Nazarene, attending Princeton Church of the Nazarene and then Redland Church of the Nazarene. He served his Lord in any and every area he could. Thad served on both church boards for 50 years, and also on the Board of Princeton Christian School for 30 years where his children attended. He served as Sunday School Superintendent for 13 years. He held church services for around 60 people at KAO Campground for 10 years. He was an adult Sunday School teacher, choir member, and served anywhere else he was needed. He was also active at the district church level. He served on the district finance committee. Thad also played on the church baseball team for years. God, his family, and church were his life.
Thad is survived by his wife, Cindy Ivey, his daughter Melissa Nehrbass and her husband Alan Nehrbass, his son Jason Ivey and his wife Carrie Ivey, his daughter Melanie Ledford and her husband Troy Ledford, grandchildren Jonathan Nehrbass, Chase Nehrbass, Alise Nehrbass, Garrett Grove, Hailey Ivey, Robert James Ivey, Landon Ledford, great granddaughter Abigail Nehrbass, his sister Margaret Headlee and her husband Sonny Headlee, sister Jeannie Witcher, and many nieces and nephews.
