Gladys del Valle Ramos took her last breath in her home on February 17th, 2022 at the age of 83 in West Miami, Florida.
Gladys was born in Havana, Cuba to parents Ana Gonzalez and Angel del Valle on March 21st, 1938; where she was raised alongside her brother Angel del Valle (deceased) and sister Ana Celia of Cuba. Gladys met her husband Jorge Ramos (deceased) in Havana where they married in 1954, and started a beautiful life together. They fled Cuba in 1959 to Miami Florida, where they raised their three daughters, Daisy, AnaBelle, and Christine. Gladys was not only an excellent cook and accomplished seamstress, she also had a fulfilling career at the Otto Richter Library at the University of Miami, where she worked in serials cataloging, archives & special collections, and the Cuban Heritage Collection. She had the opportunity to work with many dignitaries and authors whom acknowledged her contribution in their published works. She was dedicated to her faith and a lifelong member of the Church of the Little Flower. A gentle soul who dedicated her life to helping others, Gladys was active in the Legion of Mary, where she is recognized for decades of volunteer work.
Gladys is survived by her daughters Daisy Acosta, AnaBelle Ramos, and Christine Hermida, grandchildren Brian (wife Pei-ting), Christopher (wife Victoria Archer), Albert Joseph (wife Emily Tentarelli), John Paul, Evan, and Gabriella. Dearly loved by everyone who knew her, Gladys, will be remembered for her resilience, generosity, kindness, and wit. Often described as “the sweetest lady” Gladys is missed, but her gentle spirit lives on in her daughters and grandchildren, it is her legacy.
