Sarduy, Gerardo S's Obituary
Gerardo S. Sarduy, a devoted husband, brother, father, and grandfather passed away on Wednesday, May 7th, 2026, at the age of 99 years.
Born on October 23rd, 1926, in his beloved homeland of Cuba, to Gerardo Sarduy Sr., a shop keeper, and Concepcion Sarduy, an educator and school Principal.
Gerardo would go on to graduate from the Universidad of Havana as an MD. He later found his calling specializing in the field of Urology. Despite his passion for his vocation, like many doctors of his era amidst the sociopolitical turmoil, he was a political prisoner for a total of seven years.
He would later find a new home in the United States—having no choice but to reestablish himself at Ohio State University. Dreading the cold climate, he would be reunited with his family in Miami, Florida wherein he would continue to practice medicine until the age of retirement.
Those closest to him will forever remember a caring and hospitable soul that loved nothing more than time spent in the company of friends and family. Marathon conversations were held over steak and wine as weekly rituals of communion and fellowship. Though he was a man of few words, Gerardo would preside over the dinner table and was as quick to laugh as he was to give a knowing smile that revealed an impish charm and boyishness despite often being the elder statesman of the room.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Arminda, his brother Serafin, his sons Gerardo (Ileana); and Raul (Alberta), his grandsons Adrian and Alexis, and countless other friends and relatives that he called his family.
He was predeceased by his father and mother, Gerardo and Concepcion; his brothers Julio, Raul, and his cousin Pedro.
