Gerardo Fernandez's Obituary
Gerardo Fernandez, 87, of Miami, FL, went home with his Savior, Jesus, on March 1, 2021.
Gerardo was born in Caibarién, Las Villas, Cuba on September 24, 1933 to his loving parents, Rogelio and Dora Fernandez. He met the love of his life, Norberta, as a young teenager, although they had been neighbors for many years. In 1950, Gerardo married Norberta and began their life long, blissful romance. Not long after their union, they were blessed with their firstborn, Rogelio. Two years later, they were blessed again with the birth of their daughter, Maria del Carmen. Gerardo always wanted the best for his family which is why he made the difficult decision to bring them to the United States. The joy of a new future in this country, soon brought them a new and unexpected gift, their youngest child, Milagro.
Gerardo was a noble, dignified, and honorable man. His photos almost always carried an “old world” feel as he would rarely break a smile on camera...fortunately, we were able to sneak a few when he least expected it. Make no mistake, Gerardo loved the Lord and enjoyed many things in life. He loved to cook for his family. If he knew you were coming, it is a sure bet you would find him in the kitchen. He enjoyed listening to “La Poderosa” radio station for hours at a time. But his most favorite thing to do was to sit back on his recliner and watch his family whenever they were together. To Gerardo, his family was his greatest accomplishment. His legacy lives on with his children, his grandchildren, his great-grandchildren, and his great-great-grandchildren.
Gerardo is survived by his wife, Norberta Fernandez; his three children and their spouses, Rogelio & Ana Fernandez, Maria del Carmen & Roberto Amaya, Milagro & Franz Roesner; along with many loving family members and friends.
