George Molnar, a spirited soul whose life journey from Cuba to the United States epitomized courage, resilience, and a profound passion for music, passed away peacefully on March 22nd, 2024. Born Jorge Perez in Marianao, Cuba, George was raised in a loving circle of his mother, grandmother, and aunts, embarking on a life of adventure, love, and resilience from a young age.
In a daring escape from Cuba in search of freedom, George, alongside 35 compatriots, endured a harrowing journey by sea. Starved and dehydrated, they were rescued and brought to Key West, FL, marking the beginning of George's new life in the United States.
George's early years in Lewiston, Maine, were marked by hard work and the warmth of a local French-American family who embraced him and called him "Cuban." His musical talent, particularly his affinity for The Beatles, shone brightly, leading to memorable performances and a beloved presence in the community despite the language barrier.
Ultimately settling in Miami after reuniting with his mother Caridad and brother Jose Hernandez, George became a vital part of various church communities, including Calvary Baptist Church and First Church of Coral Park. His devotion to faith and music saw him play pivotal roles in choirs and concerts, especially with the group Klujics, spreading joy and laughter wherever he went.
George was a cherished father to his children, Lisa, Chad, Misael, Joshua, and David, each of whom carry forward his legacy of kindness, creativity, intellectual curiosity, and faith. His life was a symphony of love, laughter, and resilience, touching all who knew him.
George's final moments were surrounded by loved ones, serenaded with his own compositions—a fitting farewell for a man whose life was a testament to the power of hope and the enduring spirit of the human heart. He now rests in the presence of the Lord, reunited with his creator.
To honor George's memory, his family invites friends and community members to a celebration of his life on March 26, 2024 at Memorial Plan Westchester Funeral Home, 9800 SW 24th Street, Miami 33165 (viewing from 6 pm to 10 pm; service at 7 pm) (burial on March 27th, 2024 at 1:30pm at Caballero Rivero Dade South, 14200 SW 117th Ave, Miami 33186). Donations suggested in lieu of flowers to Save the Music Foundation, continuing George's legacy of generosity, love, and passion for music.
George will always be loved and missed, not just for his breathtaking story, but for the joyful and laughter-filled spirit he shared with everyone. His was truly a life well-lived.
