Fredrick William Kalmey's Obituary
We are so very sad to announce the death of Fredrick William (Fritz) Kalmey, who passed away June 17th, just two months shy of his 100th birthday. Fritz passed from natural causes in the loving care of his granddaughter, Jessica.
Fritz was born on August 18th, 1924, in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. He graduated from Dupont Manual High School in 1942 and began his career with AT&T, which would span 37 years. He worked in the Long Distance Department and, throughout his career, lived in Louisville, Memphis, New York, and Detroit.
Shortly after he began working, he enlisted and served in the Army Air Force in World War II. He served in the South Pacific for two years and was responsible for communications at Air Bases in New Guinea, Guadalcanal, Guam, and Tokyo. In 1948, he married Anna Jean Evans, and they were married for 66 years until she died in 2014. They shared a love of travel and, over the years, traveled the world together.
Fritz’s favorite pastimes were golfing and playing cards. In 1979, they retired to Homestead, Florida, where they planted a ten-acre lime grove and built their retirement home. They loved living in Florida. After Anne’s death, Fritz spent nine wonderful years with his partner, Marlyn Carpenter, until her passing in 2023.
Fritz is survived by his son Kevin Kalmey, daughter Claudia Brent (Paul), granddaughter Jessica Hicks (Matthew), grandson Joe Brent (Keriann), grandson David Brent, great-granddaughter Sophia Hicks, and great-grandson Kayden Brent. Fritz was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was loved and admired by all who knew him.
A memorial service in honor of Fritz will be held at the Branam Funeral Home, 809 N. Krome Avenue, Homestead, Florida 33030, on July 12th, 2024, at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the local Veterans Affairs office or SoldiersAngels.org.
