Ethel Jean Del Campo's Obituary
Ethel Jean del Campo (née Hartigan), 83, passed away peacefully at home May 17, 2026. Ethel Jean was fondly known for her compassionate and insightful nature, her dedication to family and service, and her beautiful smile. Born in Hudson County, NJ (September 12, 1942), Ethel moved with her family as a teenager to Fort Lauderdale, FL.
She graduated from Florida State University with a BS in Nursing and obtained a masters in Nursing from the University of Florida. She spent the majority of her extensive nursing career dedicated to the care and mental health of veterans, serving as a Clinical Specialist in Psychiatric Nursing with the Veterans Administration in Biloxi, MS and South Florida. She also enjoyed various roles involving care, mentoring, and research in pediatrics and community health. Ethel Jean was proud to serve in the Nurse Corps of the U.S. Army Reserves, where she achieved the rank of Colonel. She was a member of the 324th Army General Hospital in Perrine, FL, and served as Chief Nurse and Clinical Head Nurse of Neuropsychiatry. Above all, Ethel was a deeply devoted wife and mother with an abiding love for family. She will be dearly missed.
Ethel Jean del Campo is survived by her sisters, Nancy Lee Berry (and husband Lee), Kathleen Jenkins (with remembrance of her late husband, Paul and daughter, Shannon); children Michael Soulary (with remembrance of his late wife, Robin) and Marisa del Campo (and husband Brad); stepchildren Enrique del Campo, Eva del Campo (and husband, Roger), and Eduardo del Campo (and wife, Claudia), grandchildren Caitlyn and Christopher Soulary and step-grandchildren Alexandra and Sophia del Campo; nieces Cindy Jones and family and Christine Turgeon and family, and cousins Brian and Barry Hartigan, Dulaney Stehl (Guillen), John Stehl, Carole Stehl, and Catherine Jennings. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, Dr. Enrique Julio del Campo; parents Thomas Hartigan and Virginia Hartigan (née Stehl); and niece, Shannon Hope Jenkins.
Visitation is being held on Wednesday, May 27 11:00-12:30 at Memorial Plan Westchester in Miami, Florida, followed by 1 pm burial service at Miami Memorial Park Cemetary.
