Erico Greco's Obituary
Erico Greco, 1931-2024
Miami, Florida – Erico Greco (Eric) passed away on August 26, 2024, at the age of 93. Born on
July 1, 1931, in New York City, Eric lived a vibrant life marked by his dedication to his beloved
wife, Joan, and their five daughters.
As a first-generation Italian American, Eric grew up in the Bronx and moved to Miami in the
1950s. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. After his military service, he
embarked on a distinguished career in broadcasting and education. Starting in the mid-1950s,
he was a pioneering cameraman, producer, and director at Channel 2, at the forefront of Miami
public television. Most importantly, he met his beautiful wife, Joan, at the station where they both
started as volunteers. Eric later transitioned to Dade County Public Schools, where he managed
and modernized the educational film library by creating its first database. He earned accolades
for his innovative work.
Eric, or “Grec” as his wife and friends called him, was deeply involved in the community and the
activities of his five girls, ensuring they all went to college. He enjoyed gardening, photography,
cooking, and carpentry. He built much of the furniture in the Greco home, and his hand-crafted
seesaws, playhouses, and swings were the delight of the neighborhood. “I remember the
two-story playhouse, I would do anything to get into that house,” said neighbor Victoria Driesen.
In his forties, Eric took up running – participating in dozens of road races with Joan. Eric was
also a passionate Miami Dolphins fan, an avid reader of presidential biographies, and a lover of
Broadway musicals. He derived great joy from the arrival of each grandchild, leading the
growing tribe on neighborhood walks and capturing their personalities in his photography. Eric
made elaborate wooden toys for his grandchildren – trucks, mazes, castles – that they
treasured.
In his later years, he cherished his adopted “family” at the Bagel Express. He was a member of
Saint Timothy and Saint Catherine of Siena parishes. During Covid, the family began gathering
online where Eric regaled his grown grandchildren with stories of his life.
Eric is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen Joan (Conner) Greco; daughters Loretta Greco
and husband Mark Luevano, Susan Greco, Nancy Overby and husband Billy Terrell, Peggy
Greco-Ridge and husband George Ridge, and Janet Greco; grandchildren Sophia Brill,
Christopher Dalke, Casey Dalke, Courtney Dalke, Ben Overby and husband Matt Ingram, Kelly
Overby, Amy Overby, Ellie Overby, Alex Molenaar and wife Megan Newsome, Anna Molenaar,
Emma Molenaar, Christine Edel and husband Nate Jasmin, and James Anthony Roman and
wife Lisa Hinton; great-grandson Owen Jasmin and nephew Eddie Greco. Eric was preceded in
death by his parents, Tessie Serra and Enrico Greco; and his brothers, Louis and Joe Greco.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at St. Catherine of Siena, 9200 SW 107th Ave., Miami,
