Dorothy E Floyd's Obituary
Floyd, Dorothy Ethel (Hanley) beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 15, 2023, in Hialeah, Florida, at the age of 97. She was an only child born on June 1, 1926 to the late James A. Hanley and Mary Ethyl Stanton in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She spent her first five years on her grandparent’s farm on Shupp Hill in Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania, during the Great Depression, then moved to Philadelphia to begin school at age five. She graduated from Frankfort High School and met her future husband, James “Jimmy” E. Floyd, at a USO Dance during World War II. They married on November 22, 1945.The “Floyds” had three girls, Diane Jay, Nancy Lee, and Pamela Jane. Diane was born in Philadelphia and soon after they moved to Miami, Florida, where Jimmy became one of the first National Airline employees and attended George T. Baker’s School of Aviation. Dot and Jim were founding members of the North Hialeah United Methodist Church in Hialeah, Florida, and Dorothy was a member of the Women’s Committee and a member of the Choir at North Hialeah United Methodist Church and then Palm Springs United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her faithful husband, Jimmy, and daughter, Diane. She is survived by her loving daughters, Nancy (Ryan) and Pamela (Abrell), and grandsons Sean Ryan and Charlie Abrell. Our Dorothy, truly an angel on earth, will forever live in our hearts. She gave us many years blessed with her love and laughter and left us with memories that will never be forgotten.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 23, at 11:30 a.m. at San Jose Funeral Home located at 4850 Palm Avenue, Hialeah, FL 33010. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to any charity of your choice.
