My Aunt Loly or “Tita” as she was known to my brothers and me, was a beautiful person inside and out. Since I was a young girl, I always enjoyed being around her and always felt her love. She had a great sense of humor and one liners that had many laughing. Her home was full of laughter, love and a bit of chaos with my cousins, and my brothers and me running around- add a few dogs and Tita was happy. Tita, and my uncle Ricardo “Tito” welcomed my mom (her sister Flory) and my brothers with open arms. I have so many precious memories of holidays, birthdays and other special events we shared together. Tita really knew how to throw a party but it was all surrounded by love and fun. They are entrenched in my heart as some of the most joyful of times.
Tita and I continued a special bond although I moved to NY. One special memory was getting ready for my wedding at Tita’s house. Years later, we stayed with Tito and Tita often when we visited Miami with my husband Steven and children, Justin and Julianne. They also visited NY for special milestones with my children. I remember dancing with her and my mom at many events over the years.
I know Tita was very proud of my wonderful cousins and daughters in laws. When Tita became a grandmother, her role as “Abi” was one she especially loved. She relished the time spent with her grandkids. She would share stories with me whenever we spoke. Her cup was truly overflowing and she loved every minute.
I am blessed to have had Loly as my aunt and godmother. I will forever cherish the memories and the love we shared.
Rest in peace Tita. I love you.
