Charles J. Nash, Jr.'s Obituary
NASH, JR., CHARLES J. - Husband, Father, Grandfather, World Adventure Traveler, Business Executive
A REMARKABLE JOURNEY
Charlie was born on December 7, 1937 in Wooster, Ohio to Charles & Olga Nash. In 1959, he graduated from University of Dayton as a Distinguished Military Graduate, was commissioned a Second Lt Infantry, Regular Army and served in W. Germany until his honorable discharge in 1962. He returned to the United States with his wife, Eileen T. Mahoney of Springfield, MA whom he met and married while in Germany. He joined International Paper, a "Fortune Fifty" company in late 1962 as a sales trainee. Over the next 37 years, he held various positions and moved his family many times as he climbed the corporate ladder. Charlie and Eileen had five children; Eileen's life ended tragically in 1990 in a traffic accident after 27 years of marriage.
In 1992, Charlie was appointed Business Manager of International Paper's coated papers business in the domestic and world markets traveling globally for IP. In May 1999 he married Angela Spaneas of Boston, MA and Wethersfield, CT who was also widowed. Charlie always felt fortunate to have met & married the daughters of immigrants: both from Massachusetts, both educators, and both driven women who kept him on the right track!!
When Charlie retired in 1999, he was General Manager of International Paper's coated paper business, ending a career that was a long, challenging journey that took him from rural Wooster, Ohio across many states, countries, and continents. He and Angela established their primary residence in Key Biscayne, FL and spent their summer months at their "pied-a-terre" located in Boston's historic waterfront.
Charlie and Angela continued to thrive in global travel, as well as frequent salsa dancing and spending time with good friends. Charlie was a member of the American Legion Post #374, St Agnes Church (Key Biscayne), Sacred Heart Church (Boston), and the Key Biscayne Yacht Club. He was the proud father of 5 children and grandfather of 15 grandchildren.
Charlie and Angela had no rear-view mirrors. Their motto was "The best is yet to come; let's live the life we always imagined it could be". Excitement was the prime ingredient to meet their objectives. Today's computer-driven "lifestyle" never made Charlie's extensive bucket list. He called himself "Old School" with pride!
Charlie is survived by his wife Angela, his son Chuck & wife Jeannine of Granby, CT; son Patrick and wife Michelle of San Ramon, CA; son Steve and wife Julie of Yardley, PA; son Colonel Kevin and wife Michelle of Huntsville, AL; daughter Julie of Boston, MA; and step-daughter Catherine Spaneas and husband Jay Denis of Saratoga Springs, NY; and 15 grandchildren.
Charlie was very proud of his grandchildren and has left them great memories to cherish forever in their hearts - Melanie, Michael, Megan, Matthew, Emily, Kyle, Brian, Justin, Sara, Andrew, Eric, Sean, Bailey, Allison, and Charles (CJ) - aka "The Nashville Group".
There will be a funeral mass for Charlie on Friday February 28, 2014 at 3:00 pm at St Agnes Church 100 Harbor Drive Key Biscayne. Following the mass, there will be a Remembrance Reception at the Key Biscayne Yacht Club 180 Harbor Drive Key Biscayne, FL.
